Aerial Spraying in SF!

I can't believe that I only learned of this now:
plans for aerial pesticide spraying over California! Just to eliminate a moth that threatens the state's primo agricultural position. I'm shocked that "the most liberal state in the union" would be cool with this. I'm horrified that California would schedule this without letting people vote on it first. It's bullshit.
Here's the
online petition!
You can also
digg it or write to
Arnold and
Maria.
I think contacting them would make an impact. If enough people did that, they'd feel compelled to consider this and attempt to resolve this in a way that lets the agriculturalists fix the crops themselves without spraying the whole state.

Vs on the Street

I drove through SF yesterday and at the stoplight, I did a double take when I saw V standing at the corner. There were tons of Vs
protesting Scientology, but more specifically, they were there for
Operation: Reconnect, aimed at encouraging disconnected Scientologists to connect with friends and family again.
It is sad that people would allow an organization to convince them that they must cut off connection with family and friends that disagree with the organization's beliefs. Disheartening. The V masks rock. I hope Operation: Reconnect has some success.

Can I Get a Napkin Please?
This is hilarious. Makes me think not enough people in LA appreciate musicals! :)

I love this guy and I like this video. I need to watch this every morning and embrace these maxims.

Indie Moments

On Saturday I strolled to Union Square to use the free wireless and accomplish work. I chose a bench that gave my Mac and I our personal space but was close enough to people that I could socialize with at will. After settling in, the guy next to me (who's from Canada, but he made it clear that he's Bulgarian, haha) complimented my straight-forward nature and guessed correctly that I'm not Californian (amusing).
As we chatted, the conversation evolved from work and passions to city culture to love. I accomplished little while talking to him but didn't care — and I would argue that inspiration comes from everything, so it indirectly and positively affects my work :).
He shared his story about long distance with a girl that lasted years until it broke. We continued to chat — and it felt like being in an indie film. It felt real.
I've had moments like those. They're random, but they hit you where it counts. People should have more of these moments. If people were to let themselves be open to this, then I think that they would experience it more — and I think that they'd feel more alive.
What is one of your indie moments?

Erased from Facebook Existance
I just learned of
Robert Scoble's brief deletion from Facebook and his
blog entry is spot on.
I love technology when we use it to harness good, but I've always hated that dependent, Big-Brotherness that goes with it. We shouldn't be so dependent on one technology or company. We should have multiple mediums for representing ourselves rather than letting one entity have total control over our information.
Paper business cards still have their purpose.

For those that don't know: I now live here! I'm about an hour from downtown and 15 minutes from Stanford. More to come!

I missed Blog Action Day?!

Oh well. Not knowing what's going on means that I have too much going on (haha). From the
website, I found this
entry. I think the
Butterfly effect and
chaos theory are interesting. If you're curious, check it out! :)

I found
